The PlayaGuest guide

A little further.
At your own pace.

Start with a walk through town. Find your beach. Leave a day for somewhere new. Here are a few ways to make Playa your own.

01 / Start on foot

From the square to the sea.

Begin at Parque Fundadores and the Portal Maya sculpture, then wander along Quinta Avenida, the pedestrian street lined with places to browse and stop for a bite. Keep the plan simple: a walk, a break, then the waterfront.

A first-day idea: Fundadores → Quinta Avenida → lunch → the beach.

02 / A beach for your day

A quick dip.
Or a whole afternoon.

Two starting points from our own local experience. Choose convenience or make a little more time for the journey.

Our local tips
01

The beach at Calle 38

An easy choice when you want a beach visit without making a big outing of it. The real advantage is the choice of good restaurants nearby: combine the sea with lunch or dinner.

Best for: a beach break with a meal nearby.

02

Punta Esmeralda

A lovely option if you have more time to get there. It is farther from the central area. Our local experience includes fresh-water showers and toilets; confirm that these facilities are open before relying on them.

Best for: an unhurried visit, with the return trip planned.

03 / A change of water

Make room for a cenote.

Swap the seafront for a fresh-water outing. Choose the kind of visit you want before choosing a cenote: a quiet swim, a family outing or a guided experience.

Before leaving, check access, opening hours, entry fees, facilities and the return journey. Ask about swimming requirements and follow the site’s rules.

04 / Beyond Playa

Give a day to somewhere new.

01

Cozumel

Take the passenger ferry from Playa del Carmen for an island day. Decide how you will get around after arrival and check the return sailing before committing to your plans.

Keep some space between your last activity and the ferry home.

02

Tulum

For a day with Maya heritage, consider the archaeological site of Tulum. Plan it as a separate outing and confirm current access arrangements, admission charges and opening hours before travelling.

Choose the archaeological site as your destination, rather than just “Tulum”, when arranging transport.

05 / Stay for a bite

Let lunch be part of the plan.

Pair a beach day with the restaurants around Calle 38, or leave room for a stop while walking through town. Our restaurant journal is where we will share what we actually tried.
